Philadelphia 76ers legend and NBA Hall-Of-Famer Allen Iverson is a firm believer of the Sixers through and through. In an interview with CBS Sports this week, he shared his thoughts on recent NBA news, including Philly’s turbulent season:

CBS: How do you feel about your former franchise, the Philadelphia 76ers, at the season’s break?

Iverson: Sky is the limit for us. We just have to get healthy. We haven’t had a chance to be [fully] healthy and have our guys together all at once. Once we put it all together and get healthy then everything will be good.

CBS: Do you think the Sixers have a legitimate shot at winning the title this season?

Iverson: Oh yeah. For sure. Yep.

Though they boast a league-best 25-2 record at home and a three-game winning streak, the Sixers only sit at the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 34-21 slate, which borders mediocrity for a team that’s regarded as a serious title contender. The majority of their struggles are highlighted in the awful 9-19 record on the road, which tanks them dead-last among playoff teams.

If they finish fifth at the end of the season it means they won’t have home court advantage in any of their potential playoff series. That’s a major red flag considering their road woes.

At the center of the bumpy ride is the two young All-Stars: Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The pairing is consistently garnering concerns as of late as many believe they are not a great fit for each other.

Simmons, a 6’9 ball-handler with great athleticism, has shown slow progression in his game, particularly in developing an outside shot. In two-and-a-half seasons, he’s a combined 2-for-23 in threes and 16-for-45 in mid-range shots.

Embiid, on the other hand, has regressed coming off a monster year. His key numbers of 27.5 points and 13.6 rebounds on 48.4% shooting from 2018-19 have all dipped. It may continue falling as he went to the All-Star break averaging just 20.5 points and 9.8 rebounds on 38.5% shooting in his last five games.
