A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces emerged out of the 2025 WNBA All-Star break like a house on fire, as they demolished the Atlanta Dream at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Sin City on Wednesday. Wilson was a nightmare for the Dream.
The three-time WNBA Most Valuable Player looked unstoppable in the game, as she torched Atlanta for 24 points while making nine of her 18 takes from the floor. She was also a menace on the glass, coming away with 12 rebounds and adding five assists, two steals and a couple of blocks — all in 31 minutes of MVP-esque performance.
The former South Carolina Gamecocks star center efficiently ripped apart Atlanta. Apart from shooting 50 percent from the floor, Wilson only had one turnover despite all the touches she got and role in moving the ball on offense.
She got to her sweet spots with ease, whether with the ball or when she’s rolling to the basket after setting screens. Wilson isn’t exactly a flashy player, but her decision-making, great fundamentals, aggression and awareness on both sides of the floor complement her physical tools. Although she missed both her tries from deep in the Atlanta game, Wilson is a respectable scorer from the perimeter, making it harder for opponents to gamble on defense against her.
Wilson’s showing versus Atlanta was a continuation of her hot streak. Over the last three Aces games, the 28-year-old big has put up averages of 31.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.0 steals. On the season, the two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year is making 22.4 points on a 48.3 percent shooting, 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.6 steals per outing.
Looking ahead, Wilson and the Aces, who are back to above. 500 basketball with a 12-11 record, will next take on the Indiana Fever on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana.
