Milwaukee fans, you can now be at ease as Giannis Antetokounmpo decided that ”Cream City” will be his home for the next five years after signing a 5-year 228$ million dollar contract recently.

Which means, the Bucks will be relevant for the next few years, given that the “Greek Freak” won’t ask for any trade requests in the next few years.

However, this signing doesn’t mean that a title is assured. Hell, if I’m being honest here, it doesn’t even mean that Milwaukee will even make the NBA Finals this coming season. Just look at what happened to them last season.

But then again Giannis is a two-time league MVP.

Last season he joined Michael Jordan (1987-88) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1993-94) as the only players in the rich history of the NBA to win the Defensive Player of the Year and the MVP.

Giannis put up averages of 29.5 PPG, 13.6 RPG, 5.6 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG and 55.3% FG%.

While there is no doubt regarding the game of the “Greek Freak”, people are doubting his capability to lead a team to a title. But is it really on him?

This season, fans and critics are expecting Giannis to put up another “jaw-dropping” season with the idea of vengeance in his head. But after his signing how is Milwaukee looking as a team itself?

Well, before the extension of Giannis, the Bucks made some pretty good moves if you ask me, they traded away Eric Bledsoe for Jrue Holiday. Which is great since Holiday is a better two-way player and a better point guard then Bledsoe.

They lost Robin Lopez which affected their toughness as well as veteran stretch-bigs in Ersan Ilyasova and Marvin Williams but they were able to pick-up a young and talented big-man in Bobby Portis after New York did not pick-up his player option.

Milwaukee still have All-Star Khris Middleton and veteran big-man Brook Lopez on the team.

They were supposed to add a young and deadly scorer in Bogdan Bogdanović but the trade collapsed which costs them a good scorer.

So, how is the team looking and what do they need to next to compete for title? Or do they even need to do anything to compete for a title.

Well, right now, Milwaukee is looking like a team that can contend in the East. We can all expect Giannis to play out of his mind again (although he still needs to fix his jumpshot). Of course, Middleton will be a reliable back-up as well as Holiday and the duo of Lopez and Portis will be a problem underneath.

However, I don’t think they can win a title this season. While they can come out of the East and compete, I just don’t see the Bucks winning a title in the Finals against possible Finals contenders like Lakers, Clippers, Denver or Golden State.

We’re still unsure if Giannis could develop his jump shot, while the talent is there in the backcourt, with guys like Anthony Davis and Nikola Jokic possibly becoming the match-up for the Bucks, their frontline will is too weak in comparison.

Another problem for Milwaukee is their bench depth, I don’t think their bench will help them win a title. Especially, with the fact that they don’t have that veteran leadership that could show them how to bounce back from being down 2-0 or how to win Games 1, 3, 5 and 7, the most crucial games in a seven-game series.

I think they need to add or trade for more talents, as of the moment. The backcourt looks good, the wings are okay, the frontline is okay but there’s not much shooters.

Wesley Matthews joined the Lakers, Kyle Korver and Ilyasova are still unsigned, so there are obviously a big-whole in that department.

At the end of the day, the Bucks would need some talents coming off the bench and also capable of shooting lights-out from deep, an area of the game that would complement Giannis.

I’m not hating on Milwaukee and Giannis, I actually admire for being a star of his own and not pulling off what the other stars did in the past few years/

But the time to push for a title is now and Milwaukee would have to do something about it. I’m hoping that the current roster that they have right now would be enough but if it don’t, they better be ready to make some changes
