Man oh man. Have you recovered from that crazy, thrilling, three-day showcase? Forget the event winners for a second. We basketball fans won big time.

This seems impossible but we’ll try highlighting six memorable moments from the instant classic that is the 2020 All-Star Weekend.

The entire fourth quarter of the All-Star Game

Hard-nosed, playoff-level defense rained down in the final frame of the ASG, so excitement for any made basket was heightened. You saw everything from amazing defense, clutch shooting, and a nail-biting finish. Anthony Davis then thought it wasn’t enough and decided that he wants to make everyone’s palm sweaty.

The tributes to Kobe Bryant

Fans were divided on Kobe Bryant as long as anyone can remember, but his untimely passing brought everyone together. It made his biggest fans and detractors realize that he, all along, regardless of which side you were on, was the most beloved player of his generation.

Many of the weekend’s participants showed great love and respect for the Black Mamba, including Jennifer Hudson, who performed a heartfelt song.

Buddy at the Buzzer!

The league’s finest shooters didn’t disappoint in the 3-Point Contest, but it was Buddy Hield that stood tall amongst his competitors. He survived a shaky start in the final round and established rhythm just in time to rally past Devin Booker and win, 27-26… right at the buzzer!

Giannis’s block… or goaltend…

The 2020 All-Star Game featured a new format that was initially panned, and everyone who hated it might owe someone an apology. It led to arguably the most intense and competitive All-Star Game in recent memory. The back-and-forth wasn’t for a couple of minutes too – it was for the whole fourth quarter.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s block on LeBron James in the game’s final stretches best-represented how hard-fought it was. It was too damn close. If everyone’s being honest without some hater or fanboy shades on, it’s hard to believe anyone can be sure if it was a block or goaltend.

Luka and Trae’s meme-able faces

Luka Doncic and Trae Young will likely be linked together for the rest of their playing days. They got traded for each other on draft day 2018, and both instantly came into the NBA hardwood with guns blazing.

This fun moment from the Rising Stars Challenge further endeared the healthy rivalry with the fans.

The Slam Dunk Contest (and Dwyane Wade)

Jay-Z has a famous line in his song ‘Takeover’ where he said that then-bitter rival Nas has “one hot album every ten year average.” The Slam Dunk Contest isn’t that bad but it’s pretty close.

Thankfully, though, the 2020 version was that rare “hot album.”

Finalists Aaron Gordon and eventual champion Derrick Jones Jr. put on a classic showdown – one that could arguably go toe-to-toe with Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins had in 1988. It will be talked about for generations… as well as judge Dwyane Wade’s inexplicable scoring in the end.
