Today’s first series had great playoff implications, as it was a battle between sixth place EDG (8-5) and eighth place OMG (7-7), the latter of whom are barely holding onto the final playoff seed with Team WE and still hot on their heels.

OMG really need the win, but they’re currently riding a two game losing streak. EDG, on the other hand, are a bit safer, as they already have 8 wins and three total series to play. OMG, on the other hand, have only two left, and their final matchup is against Team WE. A win today would significantly ease the pressure, but the odds were not in their favor (1.33 for EDG, 2.77 for OMG).

Game 1:

EDG: Jinoo (Aatrox), JieJie (Lee Sin), Scout (Syndra), Hope (Varus), Meiko (Thresh)

OMG: Curse (Irelia), H4cker (Trundle), icon (Ekko), Smlz (Sivir), Cold (Taric)

EDG took out Curse in the top lane in the third minute for the first kill of the game. OMG pegged them back a couple of minutes later by catching Meiko in a 4v1, and Curse got his revenge on Jinoo with a solo kill in the top lane for a 2-1 kill lead.

Curse almost solo killed Jinoo again, who barely escaped with his life in the top lane in the eighth minute. A minute later, he finally fell again after getting ganked by Curse and H4cker.

OMG pushed hard on the top lane and dropped their rift herald to take the first turret of the game, while also taking out Scout – pushing their lead to 4-1 and the gold lead to 3K. They then teleported to pressure the bottom lane as well, taking out Hope to make it 5-1.

At the 15-minute mark, EDG had the infernal soul while OMG had the cloud soul. OMG made a huge mistake and lose Curse and H4cker in the side lanes though, letting Hope grab a double kill as EDG cut it to 5-3 and the gold deficit from 4K to 2K.

EDG took out H4cker and Smlz in the 18th minute along with a second dragon. They whittled OMG’s gold lead down and then caught out icon and then curse to switch the lead to 7-5 their way.

EDG were always moving around in packs, while OMG kept getting caught out at a disadvantage.

A big battle opened up at the dragon in the 23rd minute, and EDG took out Smlz, H4cker, and Curse for a 10-8 lead along with their third soul.

OMG started on the baron in the 28th minute as EDG came in to challenge, taking out cold along the way. An insistence from to charge head on instead of flanking continued to cost OMG heavily in team fights.

There was a disconnection issue in the 29th minute, where three OMG players looked to have lost connection, essentially turning a 4v4 into a 4v1. The network issue lasted a very long time.

The game restarted at its current state, with icon’s death not being rolled back. EDG picked up the mountain soul as well, their fourth of the game, but lost Meiko shortly after the restart.

OMG started the Baron with the 4 on 5 advantage but got deleted while also seeing the baron stolen by JieJie. It was game over after that, with EDG racing to the OMG base for a 19-9 kill lead and close to a 9K gold advantage.

EDG’s Scout led all damage dealers with 27.5K while going 6/2/9.

Game 2:

EDG: Jinoo (Maokai), JieJie (Trundle), Scout (Azir), Hope (Miss Fortune), Meiko (Nautilus)

OMG: Curse (Wukong), H4cker (Ekko), icon (Kassadin), Smlz (Varus), Cold (Leona)

OMG will feel hard done by the network problem, but that still doesn’t excuse all of the mistakes they made in the team fights in game 1. EDG simply outplayed them in the later stages of the game.

It wasn’t a good stat for OMG, who saw themselves already behind 3-1 in the kill board by the third minute, with Scout getting two early kills for his Azir.

Meiko grabbed his 5000th assist in the LPL as EDG caught out Curse and H4cker at the herald to push the kill score to 6-2 and gold advantage to 1K. Less than ten minutes in the game, Scout already had four kills on his Azir.

Scout got himself caught out in the 11th minute by icon and Smlz, but the two OMG players then found themselves getting taken out for an 8-3 score.

It was all EDG at the 15 minute mark, who increased their gold advantage to close to 5K, and four towers to none. There was a sense that they smelled blood in the water, and wouldn’t let up with their aggression.

EDG picked up their second dragon in the 17th minute and were making their first small push into the OMG base by the 19th minute.

A big team fight came down in the the bottom lane in the 20th minute, where the kill advantage was pushed to 12-5.

EDG’s onslaught continued, taking down the baron and H4cker. Another push into the Omg base in the 24th minute, and grabbed an 8-1 turret advantage as well as two inhibitors.

It was game over by the 27th minute, with EDG ahead 17-5 in kills and 10K gold. Scout was an unstoppable force with the Azir, finishing 8/2/4 and leading damage 12.8K damage, just slightly ahead of Hope who also had an excellent 7/0/6 performance.

Today’s loss leaves the final playoff space wide open for the taking. Team WE (6-6 with four games left) and Road Warriors (6-8 with two games left) are hot on OMG’s heels. Now, OMG aren’t guaranteed a playoff spot, even if they beat Team WE later this week.
