Yesterday’s ONE Esports DOTA 2 SEA League grand finals was an extremely exciting match for Filipino DOTA fans as Geek Fam, who were composed of mainly Filipino players, faced-off against the behemoths of SEA DOTA in Fnatic. The Filipino DOTA icons Kuku and Raven definitely rose to the occasion and propelled their team to victory.

Fnatic capitalized their top seed advantage and won both games in the upper bracket and headed to finals right away and wait for their grand final match-up from the lower bracket. Geek Fam on the other hand lost their first playoff series as they got swept by TNC and knocked down to the lower bracket, however, they got their sweet revenge against TNC at the lower bracket final to secure their ticket to the championship.

Game one of the finals was a neck-and-neck battle between Geek Fam and Fnatic as the early to mid-game swung back and forth. K’s Queen of Pain got a little bit of lead against Moon’s Leshrac as he got two early kills against him in the midlane. Fnatic found a way to fight back eventually, however, Raven was able to get the farm he needed. True enough, Raven’s Naga Siren was able to be the big carry for Geek Fam in the late game, the combination of Song of the Siren into a Static Storm + Kinetic Field proved to be too much for Fnatic especially when Whitemon got his Aghanim’s Scepter on his Disruptor. Raven’s MVP worth performance ending the game with a 12/1/15 forced the GG call in 49 minutes.

Fnatic was quick to answer right back against Geek Fam, they adjusted their draft and picked up Disruptor to ensure that the Static Storm would be on their side this time. This adjustment paid off for Fnatic as the Disruptor pick really provided their needed lockdown and silence to shut down the enemy Pangolier and Terrorblade. It was not a flawless win from Fnatic, yet they forced the GG call in just 35 minutes to tie series.

For game three, there was no Disruptor pick for both teams even though it was not banned during the drafting phase. Raven went with the Terrorblade pick once more and this time it played out well for him as he was the top farmer of the game with 22.3K net worth by the end of the game, and he gained the edge over the enemy carry in 23savage’s Lifestealer. Fnatic was unable to find their stride in this game especially iceiceice who were unable to find kills and gave away 9 deaths to the enemy.

Fnatic found themselves in a do-or-die situation for game 4 of this best-of-five championship series. Geek Fam clearly showed how much momentum they got going into this game, it seemed like the Anti-Mage pick was reserved for this moment and they definitely played with intentions of ending this series right from the get-go in what would be the fourth and final game of this series.

Kuku even picked Puck offlane as if he wanted to show DJ how it should be done. Karl played out of his mind on his Ember Spirit bursting enemies left and right effectively shrinking Fnatic’s safe space to farm in the map as he ended the game with a whopping 20 kills suffering only 1 death. Raven was definitely a man on a mission for this game, he secured a 14-minute Battlefury and kept the pedal to the metal farming non-stop to ensure their victory in the late game. He ended up amassing 11 kills with no deaths and 15 assists, and was also the top farmer in this one ending the game with 37.9K net worth.

It was an extremely well-played series for Geek Fam as they earned their championship against the favorites to win the tournament in a decisive manner leaving no room for doubts if they only got lucky. Their game 4 stomping with a 43-6 kill score was definitely the perfect storm, the knock-out blow, the final nail in the coffin to take the throne and solidify themselves as one of the best teams in the SEA DOTA scene.
