ESL ONE Birmingham Online 2020 officially came to a close for all four regions after Quincy Crew’s match against team CR4ZY in the grand final for the North and South America region.

Curious to see if the teams you’re rooting for won? Read on as we go through what transpired during the online tournaments.

South East Asia

The SEA region kicked things off for the whole tournament and with just six participating teams, the single round robin group stage took only four days to complete. Filipino pride TNC Predator and closed qualifier representative Reality Rift were the first two teams to be eliminated as they both only won one game for the group stage.

The playoffs started with a sweep from the heavily favored Fnatic against Boom Esports, who had the best win-loss record from the group stage with only one loss. Geek Fam and Team Adroit had a deciding game three for the first round of the lower bracket. Geek Fam came out on top, only to be swept by Boom Esports in the next round. With Boom Esports winning from the lower bracket, we see a rematch of the teams who sat at the top of team standings.

Boom Esports were finally able to find a win against Fnatic for the playoffs in the second game of the finals. However, Fnatic had no plans of giving the opposing team a chance to force a game five and secured the next two games. The team’s incredible performance was capped off by a spectacular show from Moon’s Storm Spirit.

China

The Chinese leg of the tournament started the series of grand finals held yesterday June 7, 2020. It was PSG.LGD versus Invictus Gaming in a best-of-five series, these two teams have been having frequent encounters lately. PSG.LGD secure their seventh win with this grand final match-up in the last eight times that they went against each other.

For game one, PSG.LGD broke out a team-oriented lineup in Shadow Demon and Lina as support duo to initiate and enable their three cores in Invoker, Kunkka, and Lifestealer to dish out the damage. Invictus Gaming found a way to win in game two with their Magnus-Juggernaut combo, this was the only game they were able to win however as PSG.LGD came back in game three for a stomping ending the game in just 20 minutes. With PSG.LGD being only one win away from the title, Maybe stepped up and put the nail in the coffin with his Templar Assassin who only suffered one death finishing the game with a 10/1/8 KDA.

Europe/CIS

Team Secret once again emerged as champions as they won their third consecutive title. The team has been on a tear being crowned three times in a row from WePlay! Pushka League, OGA DOTA PIT 2020 where they have not lost a single game, and this their most recent victory here at ESL ONE Birmingham Online 2020.

The European juggernauts have been dominant in this tournament as well even despite not being able to do it as flawlessly. The perfect sweep from this grand final has further solidified their position in the professional DOTA scene as they totally outclassed Alliance. Team Secret were able to accumulate a total of 31 kills for each of the three games while Alliance were only able to score 32 kills for the entire championship series.

Team Secret showed that they are nowhere near ready to bow down to a challenger just yet as we have called in our predictions for this region in one of our previous articles.

North/South America

Quincy Crew has been crowned American champions of DOTA 2 after beating CR4ZY in a best-of-five grand final match-up. Quincy Crew followed Team Secret’s footsteps and finished their own championship series without dropping a single game.

After losing 2-0 to the undefeated team CR4ZY from the group stage, Quincy Crew has not looked back as they return the favor with a 2-0 sweep as well in the first round of the playoffs in their upper bracket match-up knocking down the first seed team into the lower bracket. Team CR4ZY clawed their way back into the championship after defeating the struggling Evil Geniuses to have another go against Quincy Crew for the third time.

Quincy Crew was in control of the whole series with spectacular performances from Yawar and Lelis. With this win, Quincy Crew won their first tournament since reforming. Their stand-in Lelis has been stellar for the entirety of the tournament and was rightfully voted as Mercedes Benz MVP. It will be no surprise if we see him joining Quincy Crew permanently after seeing how well he fits in with the team.
