The 19-year old Filipino midlaner of Evil Geniuses (EG), Abed Azel “Abed” Yusop, has once again raised the bar for DOTA 2 public matchmaking by being the first player to ever reach 11,000 MMR points.

Abed has made his dominance in DOTA 2 Pub known by posting his latest accomplishment on his personal Twitter account.

Breaking MMR records is actually nothing new for the DOTA prodigy as he was also the first Filipino player to reach 9,000 MMR points way back in March 2017. At the time, joining the 9,000 MMR club, which was founded by Team Nigma’s Amer “Miracle-“ Al-Barkawi, was already a huge accomplishment as it puts you in the same category with other big name players in DOTA 2 such as Zhang “Paparazi” Chengjun, Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen, Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, and more. To everyone’s shock, Abed reached greater heights and solidified his name at the top of player rankings when he became the first player to ever reach 10,000 MMR points just three months after hitting 9K.

The DOTA star’s humble beginnings started in Dasmariñas, Cavite, his hometown. His family owned an internet café right next to their house which gave Abed an early access to computers and computer games. At the age of seven, he discovered DOTA and easily got hooked to it. Despite being the youngest player every game, he managed to be one of the top players in their group while competing with players usually twice his age. Abed shifted from DOTA to DOTA 2 when he was 13 years old, and in just three months the kid showed signs of brilliance to the game by becoming one of the Top 5 players in the SEA leaderboard making a name for himself in pub matches with his signature heroes Meepo and Invoker.

Abed began his professional gaming career in 2015 when he joined Trackmate.Tric, where he was introduced to Ralph Richard “RR” Peñano, who played a big part in his gaming career as RR recommended Abed to Execration after he left his first team to focus on his studies. However, Abed still prioritizing his academics, turned down Execration’s offer. Things took an interesting turn in January 2016 as Execration contacted Abed to reconsider joining the team, with Abed’s father convincing him to give it a try, his gaming career took off as Abed considered this to be his real start in the pro scene.

At the age of 15, the DOTA starlet was already able to participate as the youngest player in the biggest DOTA 2 event of all, The International with a prize pool of $20,000,000. Team Execration received a wild card through a third-place finish at the South East Asia Qualifier but failed to enter the group stage after suffering a 2-0 loss from Escape Gaming. Abed’s first taste at being a champion came from the MPGL South East Asian Championship where Team Execration displayed flawless DOTA and capped it off with a perfect sweep in the grand finals against MVP Phoenix which they completed in just around 40 minutes with both games combined.

Abed eventually left Execration to pursue his gaming career in a different environment. A few days later, Jimmy “Demon” Ho announced via Twitter that Abed would be joining Team Onyx, which was set to participate in the Kiev Major North America Qualifier in which they were hailed as champions. Digital Chaos signed the whole Team Onyx squad in April 2017, however they only landed in the 9th-16th place in the Kiev Major. Abed eventually signed with Team FNatic before eventually joining his current team, Evil Geniuses (EG).

His current squad is now the team with the highest MMR combined with Arteezy, Ramzes, and Cr1t all having 10K MMR. Despite Fly being their only member who is not part of the 5-digit MMR club, he is currently 41st in the American Leaderboards, and it would only be a matter of time before he hits 10K as well. Once Fly reaches this milestone, EG would have 51K MMR points combined.

Evil Geniuses’ midlaner has been sidelined for the pro matches during the coronavirus pandemic because of serious lag and internet connectivity issues as he is currently staying in the Philippines.
